Getting Started

Okay so let’s get started! So Copper will naturally tarnish and patina, so unless you are okay with that you will have two options. The first option is to just seal the hardware with a metal sealer (spray paint sealer). What I did here was just painted over the pipe, bells, and caps with Rustoleum’s Copper Metallic Spray Paint. Also, you will need a metal blade for your jigsaw, you can also purchase a copper piping cutter or a hand saw, but it literally took me 2 seconds to cut the pipe with my jigsaw.

Your next step is to hold the pipe up to your drawer to gauge how long you want it to be. Put painters tape where you want the cut to be (I guess you could also mark it with a marker). Make sure you clamp the pipe down tightly, Jigsaws can be very shaky and violent so you NEED to secure whatever you are cutting. In this case the copper pipe! Once you have clamped the pipe down, cut that baby. After you have cut the piece, either spray it with the clear sealer or in this case the copper spray paint.

Installing the Copper Drawer Pulls

Okay, so the next step is to make sure that you mark where you want your bells to go. For copper drawer pulls I put two bells, for smaller ones I put a bell in the center of the drawer. At this point, you also want to make sure you know how much space you want on each end of the actual pipe so its even. Either write it down or make small marks so you know where your pipes need to sit.

Once you have marked everything you can start drilling the bells into place. (Just know that the copper screws are VERY soft, so you may need to use a more strong screw, just make sure it is the same size as the copper screw so it does NOT stick out). If the head of the screw is too big your pipe will not sit flush and you cannot tighten the pipe properly.

Once you have screws all your copper bells into place, you are ready for the piping. The bell will come with screws, you can either hand screw it or use a drill, just be sure to go slow, you can start at the bottom and alternate from bottom to top until it is totally secured. Once you have all your piping totally secured, you can put the end caps on.

Now that you have assembled everything your copper drawer pulls are complete! Easy and Cheap! Check out the final piece below!!
