How To Restore Your Antique Hardware With Items From Your Kitchen

Imagine this, you pick up this beautiful piece of furniture and you really want to keep the original antique hardware, but it’s old and dingy. There are so many path to get to where we want to be in this situation. To clean, beautiful, like new hardware. The path we are going to take here is one that is easy, non-toxic, and may make you look at one of your favorite condiments in a different light!

What do you need:

1. White Vinegar

2. Wire Brush

The Power Of Vinegar!

Vinegar is an amazing product. So I am going to show you how to clean your hardware, with white vinegar anddd ketchup!! One of the main ingrediants in ketchup is vinegar so naturally…..I want to give you two different options! Why on earth does vinegar work? Well it has an acidic base that will cut right through all of that old tarnish and dirt!

If you are using liquid vinegar you will want to soak your hardware in it. Depending on how much tarnish and dirt is on the antique hardware will determine how long you soak it, start by soaking it for an hour. IF there is a lot of tarnish you will want to soak longer, you can even soak it  overnight. If you are using ketchup you will want to brush on the ketchup and let it sit, start with an hour and if need be let it sit longer.

Getting The Dirt Off

Whichever product you decide to use, you will want to use a wire brush to scrub the antique hardware. After you scrub the hardware you will start seeing the old tarnish and dirt coming off. When you are happy with what the hardware looks like you can rub it off with a clean cloth. Now you have like new, beautiful, shiny antique hardware!
