To be quite honest I will walk you through the prep and first few steps of this blended dresser, but talking you through blending is tough. I created a video though. You KNOW I did!! I will show you how I prepped this piece because it did have a thick factory finish coating. There are a few steps you need to take before the blending begins! The Before Picture

Prepping The Dresser

Okay so this piece was made by a fairly popular furniture company that is now out of business. It has a thick and sturdy factory finish on it, but also was in a little kids room (enough said). I had to sand and clean this piece really well. There were deep scratches that needed to be sanded out and smoothed. I used my surf prep sander to do this. Starting with an 80 grit paper and working my way up. Once the piece was sanded down I cleaned it really well with Dixie Belle White Lightning.

Painting Each Color For The Blended Dresser

When I am blending I like to paint at least 1 to 2 base coats of the colors first BEFORE I ever blend. For this piece I did two coats of each color, that way I KNEW they had good coverage and that I knew where my blend lines would be.

I used the following colors, you can use your choice of colors as well. I just made sure they were mermaid and all in the same color family. These colors are all cool and have green and blue tones. This is what I look for in blending, I very rarely blend colors that aren’t related in some way (if that makes sense). If you don’t blend like colors it’s much more difficult and can create muddier and not so pretty blends.

Laying Down Your Base Coats

I started at the top of the piece and worked my way down using Amethyst, Blueberry, The Gulf and Mermaid Tail.
