Blending ombre paint techniques and giving furniture a blended look has become quite popular as of recent. I have always said there are only so many techniques out there and if you are a creative, chances are you have tried them, none of us made this stuff up. It has been around since the times of Monet and Picasso, but its how we choose to find our art and what twists we put on these age-old techniques that allows our style and art to find us and it is what makes us stand out above the sea of a million talented artists.

What is Ombre Paint Blending

Ombre-Ombré /ˈɒmbreɪ/ (literally “shaded” in French) is the gradual blending of one color hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark.

Before you paint any piece of furniture make sure you are prepping the piece properly first. This is a great guide at prepping furniture.

When I am painting a piece in the ombre style I like to make it gradual blend, some pieces out there are considered or called ombre but there are hard and crisp transition lines. That is not to say that it is not true ombre paint, because this is art and we can do what we want right? I like to think I have somewhat mastered the ombre paint blending, but that’s in my world. When I am choosing colors to paint an ombre piece with I stick to the same color family, I don’t go from red to blue to green, if I want greens I stay in the green family and so forth.

I used Midnight Sky, Hurricane Grey, and Driftwood. When I am doing an ombre piece I mix those colors with each other so the bottom was midnight Sky, the next layer up was Midnight Sky and Hurricane Grey mixed, then the next layer above was Hurricane Grey, then the next layer was Driftwood and Hurricane Grey mixed and the final and top layer was driftwood. when you mix and blend this way you get a much more subtle transition and I personally feel like it makes blending much more easy and fun.
