You Have To Check Out This Easy No Sew DIY Dog Bed

Let me first start this post by saying, I know it is random. But, listen, 90% of the population owns a furry creature who can benefit from this. I am doing it for them, for the small furry creatures of the world not the humans. Okay maybe a little bit for the humans. In all seriousness this is why I am making this post. We are about to embark on a HUGE international move! From Cheyenne, Wyoming to Spangdahlem, Germany.

With that being said, my two puggle babies Zeppelin (14) and Cannon (1) will need some comfort along the way. Our household goods have been packed up and shipped out and we still have a month left in our house. Did I forget to mention that we removed ALL the carpet from our upstairs? Zeppelin is NOT happy. He has 14 year old hips that don’t allow him to jump up on things he shouldn’t…like beds and couches. We will also drive our cars from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Baltimore. Days of driving friends! Then we get on a jet plane from Baltimore to Germany. Don’t you think these furry little creatures deserve some comfort?

Remember when I told you ALL my stuff was packed and shipped, that included my sewing machine. So guess what?!?! You benefit from that ALSO because this is an easy NO SEW DIY dog bed blog!!

Let’s Make This No Sew DIY Dog Bed!

So now that you know WHY I am blogging about this, you need to know WHAT you need!!

Safe Surfaces for Ironing

Below is one of my dog’s crates, I didn’t totally assemble it yet because 1. I needed to measure it and 2. They WOULD NOT have agreed to model it. This is the foam block I used, it clearly needed to be trimmed.

The first step is to measure the area where you want the cushion to go in. I measured the area and then took my marker and drew lines where I need to trim. After the lines were drawn I cut the foam with my scissors.

Once the cushion is trimmed down to fit the bottom of the crate you will fit your fabric. The next step for your DIY dog bed is to wrap the cushion in the fabric and trimmed it down. You don’t want the fabric to be super loose, just enough to fit over the cushion and so you can close it. I will show you that step later.

Sewing Okay (NO-SEWING) This DIY Dog Bed

The next step is to “NO SEW” the fabric together. This is the step where you will need your heat n bond, iron, and safe place to iron. The first step is to measure and cut the strips of heat n bond. after you have done that you will actually fold the fabric to where the sides you want facing out are folded against each other. Once you have the heat n bond placed where you want the fabric to be “sewn” together, you will use your iron to heat the heat n bond. You will repeat this process at ONE end, (leave the other end alone for now), and the open side.

Make sure you hold your iron on the area with the heat n bond for about 30 secs on each section to make sure it heats up enough. You will be able to check if it has bonded by lifting the flaps apart.

Flip your fabric right side out once you have ironed the open side and ONE open end. Remember leave one end alone.

Do you remember that end I said not to mess with? Well now we are going to clean it up a bit, Velcro will go on that end. Why? So you can remove it and wash it. Fold the insides of your DIY dog bed in to where it looks nice and clean and neat. Once you have folded it like you want, cut the heat n bond to fit. Tuck your strip under the flap, so when you iron it, it will close up nicely.

Let’s Close This Baby Up

Put your fabric over the cushion you cut. Now pull out your permanent Velcro! You will fit the velcro before you peel the backing off. So start on one flap, measure, cut, peel the back off, stick and push down! Then flip the cushion and do the other side. Make sure one side is the teeth and one is the fuzzy side.

See how easy and painless this whole making a DIY dog bed thing was?? Now your cover will close nicely and you can remove it to wash it if you need to also!!

I think Zeppelin (14) and Cannon (1) approve don’t you??
